Volunteer today for racing charities!

Charities working across the sport are frequently in need of valuable support from volunteers – on an ongoing basis or just to support a particular event.

Volunteering is a great way to help the causes you support, and can even boost your CV and help you make new friendships.

Market Rasen host family fun on Don Noble raceday

On Sunday 8th July, Market Rasen held the Don Noble Family Extravaganza Raceday. This was the 21st year that the bookmakers have sponsored the day, which included a variety of free activities and racing entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

The fun-packed day was made even more accommodating for families with children under 18 gaining free entry as part of the nationwide ‘Under 18s Race Free’ campaign. Customers in the lawn enclosure laid out with picnics in the sun and were able to enjoy seven competitive races. The first of which was a Handicap Hurdle run in memory of the late jockey Tom Halliday.

A children’s race on the track was followed by two Charles Owen-sponsored Pony Races, each with a healthy 15 runners. These races are gaining popularity each year as an important breeding ground for future champions in the racing industry.

The lawn enclosure, accessible for all customers, hosted activities for all ages on the day. There was an opportunity to meet Chase & Marshall from PAW Patrol; an inflatable funfair; pony rides; face-painting; a mini pet farm and the fantastic playground.

An incident after the first race did not detract from the great community feel of the day. Steve Bakin, Head Groundsman at the course was called upon to make a heroic capture of a loose horse to allow for the ambulance to cross the track and for staff to tend to a jockey, which all ended well for the rider and his mount.

Market Rasen is hosting their next Family Day in partnership with local charity, KIDS in early August. The KIDS Superhero’s Family Extravaganza will be another chance for Under 18s to attend for free, and a contribution to KIDS charity will be made for every advanced booking. The day will include a KIDS carnival in the lawn enclosure with free entertainment for children of all ages, plus the opportunity to meet Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Leo & Ralph. There will also be a best Superhero costume competition for both adults and children to win fantastic prizes.
