Aintree showcase Community Programme at Randox Health Grand National Weights event
Aintree racecourse was keen to highlight their award-winning community programme by inviting the Liverpool Signing Choir to perform John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ alongside soprano Laura Wright at their annual event to announce the weights carried by horses competing in the Grand National.
Dual National winner Tiger Roll and stablemate Delta Work have been allotted top weight of 11st 10lb for the 2020 Randox Health Grand National at Aintree on Saturday, 4 April, details of which were revealed at their Weights event held at St George’s Hall in Liverpool last week.
With a prize fund of £1 million, the Randox Health Grand National is the world’s richest Jump race and takes place for the 173rd time this year at 5.15pm on day three of the Randox Health Grand National Festival.
Catherine Hegarty from Liverpool Signing Choir said: “The choir started as an after-school club at Knotty Ash Primary School where I work as a communicator for deaf children. Fast-forward a few years we now have an adult choir, too.
“It’s just an unbelievable honour to be able to do this, and in our home-town. The children and adults have been so excited to perform an absolutely spellbinding performance. I’m so proud because I’m watching their signing. It’s the right context for the song, the song looks lovely and all the children are happy as well.”
