Aintree’s Community Race day is a time for celebration and commemoration

Racing charities and many other local partners were at the heart of Aintree’s community raceday on November 11th.

To the soundtrack of mass harmony singing from local choir Singing our Socks Off, racegoers were able to get involved with football sessions coached by the group, Everton in the Community.

One of many highlights was the Equine Art Competition, which involved three local six form colleges tasked with painting life-size replica horses in the most creative way possible. Archbishop Beck scooped the grand prize of £500, however Aintree donated £250 to the other two participants: Maricourt and Holly Lodge Girls College – a great gesture in line with the community spirit of the day.

Rose Patterson Aintree Chairman said: “We feel strongly that we are part of the Liverpool community. Our community raceday showcases some of the wonderful charities and local schools that we work with and how much we value the vital work that takes place in our community.”

The ever-popular Injured Jockeys Fund were out in force selling their Christmas gift range and The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre brought along a retired racehorse to promote their stand and their work.

The Community Race day also paid tribute to Armistice Day with the Royal British Legion and Military Veterans selling poppies. The racing community used the hashtag Racing Remembers on the day with various racing stakeholders and partners getting involved with the social media campaign.
