All are welcome to Epsom’s Open Day 2018

The Epsom Open Day will take place on August 27th and is a collaboration between Racing Together partner Racing Welfare and sponsor, The Jockey Club.

A total of eight of Epsom’s local trainers will be opening their gates once again to the public to meet their horses and staff.

Epsom is synonymous with horseracing, and the most famous race of all, The Derby. Since 1779 the richest race in Britain has been drawing huge crowds to the Epsom and Walton Downs.

Some of the racing’s centre’s key players will be on hand to answer any and all questions about keeping a horse in training at Epsom Downs.

Tickets for just the morning cost £7.50 for adults or can be purchased in a package with the afternoon racing for just £20. Those under the age of 18 are admitted FREE to both events.

The afternoon racing is a Superheroes and Superheroines Family Fun Day. There is plenty of action- packed activities to keep everyone entertained throughout the day, which of course will all have their own Superhero twist. Dressing up as a Superhero is optional but definitely encouraged!

Epsom Superhero Space Hopper Race

At 1:15 the Trainers and Stable Staff Space Hopper Race will take place. The relay race will be approximately 1/2 a furlong on the Epsom Derby course, and the winning team will receive the Hop ‘Til You Drop Trophy.

The Downs is an area of some 600 acres, from which on a clear day you can see a panoramic view of London. Epsom Downs training ground hosts 85 miles of grass and all-weather tracks and is the permanent base for 11 racehorse trainers operating in the town.

In 2016, Harbour Law, trained by Laura Mongan, won the St Leger becoming the first Epsom-trained Classic winner in 47 years. He followed this up with a gutsy third-place in last year’s Ascot Gold Cup.

In 2017, Mr Scaramanga won a valuable Group 2 Race in Doha, Qatar, and was voted Epsom Trained Horse of Year at the Epsom Owners and Trainers Awards.

Both of these horses’ trainers’ yards will be open to the public on the day.
