All eyes are on Cheltenham this week and their community programme gains momentum behind-the-scenes

They may not be able to welcome racegoers this week, but that hasn’t stopped the racecourse from keeping in touch with their local community.

The Festival supporting WellChild

For the first time, Cheltenham Racecourse has given the headline sponsorship of The Festival to charity including for the Gold Cup. Cheltenham-based children’s charity WellChild’s vision is for every child and young person living with serious health needs to have the chance to be supported at home. Read more in our blog written by CEO Colin Dyer.

Shishkin’s owner Mrs J Donnelly pledged to donate £10,000 to the charity following her seven year-old’s impressive win in the Grade 1 Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase on day one of the Festival.

Now I Have a Racehorse airs on CBBC

Young equestrian Aamilah achieved her dream to win a pony race thanks to St James City Farm Riding School in Gloucester and with backing from The Jockey Club, who purchased a pony for her to ride. Follow her journey in a five-minute CBBC documentary here.

Cotswold Riding for the Disabled

Just down the hill from the racecourse is the Cotswold Riding for the Disabled centre whose work and ponies positively impact the lives of young and old people living nearby. In usual years you would find their team shaking buckets at the gates for generous racegoers but this year they have a fundraising appeal online instead.
