Ascot supports local students in bid to win “Young Enterprise Company of the Year

Ascot Racecourse provided a platform for student groups from St George’s School in late March in support of their participation in the Young Enterprise national entrepreneurship programme, which aims to teach students the fundamental skills of starting up and running a successful business. Students are required to form companies, design, source and sell a product; and ultimately compete for the coveted national crown of ‘Young Enterprise Company of the Year’.

This was the first time St George’s Ascot has engaged with the racecourse, as they bid to continue a proud tradition of participation in the competition. The student companies progress through regional heats and then on to Berkshire area finals.

This year St George’s is hosting three Young Enterprise Companies operating in the Lower Sixth form – Dina, Calypso and Elektra: selling stationery sets, reusable water bottles and illuminated dog collars, respectively. The students worked hard to drum up trade during the race meeting to sell their products and boost their profits, while learning valuable customer service skills.

Ascot provided the groups with a Gazebo opposite the Bandstand Lawns with all three Young Enterprise Companies being exposed to a race day crowd of over 11,000.

Jacqui Greet, Charity & Community Executive Liaison at Ascot commented on the day: “We are really pleased to provide this platform to the enthusiastic students and also to add a new dimension for our race-goers. We at Ascot wish the groups all the best in their quest to win Young Enterprise Company of the Year.”
