Beverley works its magic to conjure up summer fun for all the family
A place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages, Beverley remains a priority destination for visitors to Yorkshire. The racecourse is high on the list of attractions, evidenced by the stream of family picknickers that clocked in early to hug the running rail and enjoy the entertainment of Sunday’s Circus Family Raceday.
The racecourse showed no ill effects of racing the day before and the relaxed crowd received a warm welcome on a day that offered strong competition with seven races, and fun for all ages.
There was soon little room to be had within the infield, which was transformed into a colourful carnival of rides, sideshows and a big top – no surprise from a town that inspired the naming of Beverly Hills in California. Stealing the show was the, slightly mechanical, elephant that padded through the crowd, complete with its top-hatted keeper.
One thing’s for sure, it won’t just be the elephant with the long memory of a great community day at Beverley.
