British racing’s National Day of Employee Volunteering to extend reach and impact

This year’s sixth annual Racing Together Community Day – a recognised national day of community volunteering for racing employees – will be a week-long initiative to expand industry-wide activity. Racing organisations nationwide are targeting their efforts between May 5th– 11th to give back in numerous ways to charities and other deserving causes in their communities.

Staff teams and individuals wishing to get involved either for the first year, or as one of the 80 or so organisations that rolled up their sleeves 12 months ago, are encouraged to get in touch with Racing Together. Once signed up, the team will be on hand to support any planning of volunteering activity and to signpost any other colleagues who may wish to lend a hand.

This year’s extension to a week provides further inspiration and scope for giving back: from encouraging more colleagues to join you, spreading activity over more days and inviting neighbouring racing organisations to help you. There has never been a better time to get involved, to support others in need and to gain all the benefits of taking part.

John Blake, CEO of Racing Together said: “We have our sights set on supporting another record year of engagement from colleagues who wish to help others and to enjoy themselves in the process. We are excited to see how the expansion of this initiative to a week helps supports beneficiaries of racing organisations nationwide. We know that there is so much need out there and racing people are inherently generous and unafraid of graft, which is a powerful mix when focussed on volunteering with tangible benefit for others.

“We look forward to supporting and showcasing racing people’s creative and enthusiastic response to this call to action.”

Over 20 racing organisations have already signed up for this year’s initiative and are planning their volunteering activity. Broad-ranging initiatives include raceday charity partnerships, local litter picks, foodbank collections and inspiring careers events. A small number of racing organisations have already carried out their volunteering, or plan to take part later this year if the date isn’t suitable for their organisations due to the racing calendar.
