Celebrating National Volunteer Week 1st – 7th June

Today marks the first day of Volunteers Week and people around the country and within the racing industry are recognising and saying thank you for the contribution volunteers make to our communities.

Racing Welfare exists to help anyone who works in who works in British racing and aims to help people, from recruitment to retirement, to thrive in day-to-day life and through a range of life’s challenges. Volunteers are vital in helping them achieve this and current opportunities can be found here. The charity is holding a question and answer webinar at 1pm Wednesday 3 June with their volunteer coordinator Jen Gates as part of Volunteer Week. To find out more visit their website.

Careers in Racing is a job board delivered by the BHA and is free to use. Their job board has numerous exciting volunteer positions within the racing industry. Current live positions can be seen below and on this link.

Trustees are vital volunteers

The Racing Foundation is looking to appoint two Trustees, with one to become Chair. The Racing Foundation is delivering its most ambitious strategy to date; a strategy that will see it be a catalyst and funder of improvement for the British horseracing and Thoroughbred breeding industries, delivering real impact over the next three years.

On behalf of all of racing charities, we say a huge thank you to the many Trustees who are passionate about helping others, whether young or old, human or equine – we couldn’t exist without you.

Volunteers at Newmarket Pony Academy

The Newmarket Pony Academy is a new project designed to give young people the opportunity to learn new skills such as teamwork, confidence and resilience. They will be running week-long courses designed to introduce children to ponies and using a different learning environment they will strive to engage them in core subjects along with equine care. They are looking to recruit a team of reliable volunteers who have a passion for helping young people learn and develop as individuals.

Equine Volunteering at the National Horse Racing Museum, Newmarket

The Museum is seeking Equine Volunteers to support the care of their resident horses and to engage visitors. Assisting with the care of horses pre and post exercise, as well as taking visitors on a behind-the-scenes tour and explaining the re-training of racehorses in the arena is key to these roles.

Join the Women in Racing Mentoring Programme

Mentoring is a key objective of Women in Racing (WiR), which aims to provide support across all facets of the industry nationwide. WiR Mentors volunteer their time to provide tailored support, encouragement, guidance and contacts to help ensure that racing’s people can develop.
