Cheltenham Racecourse to celebrate retired racehorses in RoR parade this weekend

Cheltenham Racecourse will host a special Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) Parade on Saturday, November 16th, from 11:35am to 11:55am, celebrating the successful second careers of retired racehorses. The parade, part of the November meeting, will feature 10 former racing stars now excelling in disciplines like dressage, eventing, and showing.

Among the equine stars is Allaho, the 2021 Ryanair Chase winner, who has begun a second career in dressage and showing with his new owner, Emma Vine. Allaho’s 12-length victory in the 2021 Ryanair Chase cemented his status as a Cheltenham Festival hero, and his post-racing journey highlights the opportunities available to retired racehorses.

The parade will also feature two former Cheltenham Gold Cup champions: Coneygree (2015) and Native River (2018). Coneygree, retired in 2019 after his Gold Cup win, has thrived in RoR showing classes, even reaching the finals of the Tattersalls RoR Show Series at Hickstead. Similarly, Native River, a hero of the 2018 Gold Cup, has continued to shine in the show ring, being crowned Tattersalls RoR Amateur Show Series Final Champion earlier this year.

David Catlow, Managing Director of RoR, praised the parade as an opportunity to showcase the diverse paths retired racehorses take in their second careers. “This event celebrates their success and highlights the vital aftercare provided by RoR to ensure these horses have fulfilling second careers.”

The RoR Parade at Cheltenham offers a glimpse into the rewarding lives awaiting retired racehorses, celebrating their continued achievements beyond the racetrack.
