Family fun and first-class Arabian racing combine at Dubai International Arabian Races
The Dubai International Arabian Races (DIAR) returns to Newbury Racecourse on Sunday, 28th July with top class Arabian racing, family entertainment and the chance to win huge prizes.
The community day offers free admission for everyone and there are 1000s of free gifts, prize draws, competitions and plenty of children’s entertainment throughout the day. On arrival, racegoers will be handed scratchcards that can be exchanged during the afternoon for free ‘goodie bags’ packed with gifts for the younger racing fans.
In the feature competition on the day, which is free to enter, one lucky racegoer will drive away with a brand-new car, a Picanto 2, supplied by Kia Snows of Newbury.
The winner of the Best-Dressed Lady competition and a friend will jet off to Dubai in style, courtesy of the multi award-winning Emirates Airline to enjoy five luxurious nights in one of Roda’s five-star properties.
Children with a creative flare can enter the Best Homemade Children’s Hat competition; there’s a Selfie competition for budding photographers – both offering iPads for the winners.
The Racing to School team will be there offering young racegoers access behind the scenes at the racecourse, as well as some expert tuition on a ‘mechanical horse’.
Staged under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and one of the world’s leading owner-breeders of purebred Arabian horses, it is considered the ‘Champions Day’ of Arabian racing. The card features an eight-race programme and includes three Group 1 contests and quality supporting races that are guaranteed to attract some of the best Arabian horses and jockeys from across Europe and the Middle East.
The highlight is the Shadwell International Stakes, a Group 1 event for purebred Arabians four-years-old and over and run over a distance of a mile and a quarter with prize money of £58,000 on offer.
The day is presented by international sports broadcaster, Derek Thompson, who will be interviewing many of the leading owners, trainers and jockeys involved on the day and trying to find racegoers a few winners.
