Fantastic response so far to new community survey

Organisations from across racing have responded with enthusiasm to a groundbreaking survey aimed at auditing the sport’s contribution to the communities in which it operates. The survey is due to close on September 18th and almost 100 submissions have been received. Once collated, the information will form a free, searchable directory for the sport’s use, and as a resource for wider stakeholders, including the media and community leaders.

More contributions welcomed

A partnership between The Racing Foundation, Godolphin and Racing Together is leading this work, which is focused on growing racing’s contribution to education and community engagement, both in the UK and by helping to support and complement similar activities overseas.

Rob Hezel from The Racing Foundation said: “We are very encouraged by the response from so many organisations at a time when there are many tough challenges and competing priorities. This is an important piece of work that will benefit the sport on a long-term basis.

“We would like to take this opportunity to ask those who are able to complete the survey to please do so, to make sure your great work is included within this new directory.”

York’s Macmillan Raceday has raised over £8m for Macmillan Cancer Support, making it the charity’s largest single fundraising event. View our Case Studies to see more examples of racing’s community engagement and education activity.

Data will be key to future strategy

The survey encompasses the work of racing and equine charities; racecourses; industry bodies and practitioners. In tandem with forming the new directory, the data will also be used to inform a future strategy  – for how existing and new programmes and funding might be deployed with best effect for the sport’s many beneficiaries and agreed areas of need.
