The finalists for the 2025 Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) Awards have been announced, with public voting now open for the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust RoR Community Impact Award and The Jockey Club RoR Horse of the Year Award.
The Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust RoR Community Impact Award celebrates individuals, partnerships, or organisations that have made a significant contribution to people’s lives through their work with former racehorses. Public voting is now open until the 10th of January 2025 for this award and the finalists are:
- Samantha Barton from Redberth Croft CIC with Up For An Oscar
- Grace Muir from HEROS Charity
- Louise Robson from Thoroughbred Dressage with Forth Bridge
Each finalist has been recognised for their dedication to using former racehorses to benefit their communities, through therapeutic programmes, educational initiatives, or improving well-being.
The award last year was won by rehoming and retraining charity New Beginnings with their wonderful ex-racehorse Goldream known as Remy.
In addition to the Community Impact Award, there is the Jockey Club RoR Horse of the Year Award, which honours former racehorses who have excelled in new careers after racing. The finalists for this award are:
- Amroth Bay and Sophie Kington
- Evron and Stella Bunn
- Master Wickham and Claire Lewis
- Second Brook and Lesley Sayers
Both awards will be presented at the 2025 RoR Awards ceremony on Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham Racecourse on January 25th, 2025. The event marks RoR’s 25th anniversary and will celebrate the versatility of former racehorses, as well as their impact on their communities and new careers.
David Catlow, Managing Director of RoR, commented on the outstanding nominations: “The incredible range of nominations we received has made selecting the finalists a truly difficult task. Each nominee’s story highlights not only the versatility of former racehorses but also the incredible dedication shown by those who care for them. From providing therapeutic opportunities to creating educational platforms, these finalists embody the commitment to ensuring that former racehorses live fulfilled lives beyond their racing careers. We are incredibly proud to celebrate their contributions through these awards.”
