Hats off to Market Rasen Racecourse for year-round support of Age UK Lindsey

Earlier this year, Market Rasen Racecourse announced Age UK Lindsey as their charity of the year. This new partnership with the local group of the country’s largest charity dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life, began on the day of the Jockey Club Live concert with Madness after racing in June.

The racecourse will provide bucket collections during each racing fixture for the 12 months between June 2019 and May 2020. This includes the Age UK Lindsey Family Extravaganza on Sunday, 4th August, which is a sponsored day for the charity.

‘The Great Galloping Coffee Morning’, hosted at the racecourse in April offered local residents an opportunity to come along to meet new people and find out what Age UK Lindsey can offer the over 50s.

Andrew Storer, Chief Executive Officer, Age UK Lindsey, said: “We are thrilled to become Market Rasen Racecourse’s 2019/20 ‘charity of the year’ and to be launching this partnership with ‘The Great Galloping Coffee Morning’.

“Horse racing is Britain’s second biggest spectator sport so this new partnership with our local racecourse will help boost our charity’s profile. We are also very much looking forward to the Age UK Lindsey Family Extravaganza in August.”

Market Rasen’s Betway Summer Plate Ladies Day on July 20^th is another key event in support of the partnership

Before the big day, racegoers are being invited into the charity’s shops to see what great bargains they can scoop up – they may even find the full outfit: hat, shoes and accessories.

Market Rasen shop manager Diane Cresswell said: “We get some fantastic items and the shop gets very busy. More and more people are looking at just what we can offer them.”

In advance of Ladies Day, Diane has displays of racing outfits in her shop: “We hope to keep our eye-catching window displays going right up until Ladies Day,” she added.

Every year, the independent charity, which covers a wide area of Lincolnshire including East and West Lindsey and North Lincolnshire, raises thousands of pounds through the sale of high-quality used goods, clothing and accessories. Despite commons misconceptions they are not part of the larger Age UK charity. Money raised provides services including befriending, lunch and coffee clubs, home support, and information and advice – in 2017 alone the charity helped local older people receive a massive £6,064,804 of unclaimed benefit.
