Peter O'Sullevan House Newmarket 07 August 2019

IJF set to open Peter O’Sullevan House on 12th August

Only 12 months since the project started, the Injured Jockeys Fund’s rehabilitation and fitness centre,  Peter O’Sullevan House will be opening its doors on Monday 12th August.

Based in Newmarket, adjacent to the British Racing School, the centre will provide expert rehabilitation services including the provision of a ‘state of the art’ hydrotherapy pool.

For jockeys and the wider racing population

Lisa Hancock, CEO of the IJF says “We have a fantastic team in place and amazing facilities and are really looking forward to engaging with jockeys, both currently licensed and retired, and the wider racing population of Newmarket.

“We have learnt a huge amount from both Oaksey House and Jack Berry House, our existing centres in Lambourn and Malton respectively. This third facility completes our nationwide coverage and by working closely with the British Racing School here in Newmarket we will be able to support jockeys throughout every stage of their career and beyond. Jockeys are now so aware of the benefits of a fit and healthy body and mind.

Providing support on many levels

“Our aim is to provide support at many levels including; physio, strength and conditioning, nutritional advice, sports psychology and general pastoral care.

“Our Newmarket team Lead physio, Ross Hollinworth, has fantastic experience working with elite athletes from track and field, football and cricket. Physiotherapist Becky Webber joins us from having worked with British Swimming and Canoeing, whilst Sports Rehabilitator Emma Hunter hails from a rugby union background.

“As a charity we are extremely proud to be able to offer this level of service and expertise to our sports men and women, and are exceptionally grateful to our many supporters who have made it possible.”
