Sarah Montgomery on Musselburgh’s community engagement activity
It was no surprise that Sarah Montgomery was shortlisted at the recent Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards given her work in driving forward Musselburgh Racecourse’s engagement with their local community.
Sarah is Senior Operations and Commercial Manager at Musselburgh and speaking on Monday night at the Awards we heard how, since 2015, the Scottish racecourse has evolved their community programme to match their resources with the needs of those living nearby. The judges of the Rory MacDonald Community Award recognised the impact of this strategy.
With support from Racing Together’s Scottish Community Engagement Manager Eleanor Boden, Musselburgh now has an education programme and are working towards becoming a dementia-friendly venue, as well as tackling loneliness and contributing to improving their local area.
In her interview (video below) Sarah describes the racecourse’s approach to supporting the needs of people locally and also a keen desire to introduce people to racing who may not otherwise encounter the sport.
