It’s National Racehorse Week! Find out about the community visits that took place
Following the sad death of Her Majesty the Queen, National Racehorse Week began a day later than planned as a mark of respect. We wanted to celebrate the life and legacy of Her Late Majesty The Queen as well as her love of racing, and many of the events below did just that.
Monday
Thank you to the team at Paul Nicholls Racing for hosting a group of NHS and key workers in partnership with our partner Blue Light Tickets. The visit showed the care and attention that goes into looking after the brilliant equine athletes at Ditcheat.
Tuesday
Racing to School and Kubler Racing welcomed children to experience a fascinating behind-the-scenes day at their Lambourn stable. Other Racing to School events this week include Manor House Stables, the base of Hugo Palmer and the Racing League finale at Newcastle.
Wednesday
Yorkshire trainer Jo Foster and National Racehorse Week ambassador Sigurd visited nearby Burley Woodhead Primary School to meet 210 students. Sigurd’s other visits have included a local care home and in local residential areas.
Thursday
Godolphin treated members of the Urban Equestrian Academy from Leicester to a fantastic VIP tour of their operations in Newmarket, including their rehoming centre, Dalham Hall Stud and Newmarket gallops. They have also taken their rehoming ambassador Papineau to Newmarket Hospital.
Friday
The six-week pilot “Ouzbeck Programme” aims to develop the evidence-base for using former racehorses in community and care home settings, with thanks to support from the Racing Foundation. You can find out more about this programme here.
