Jockey Jamie Moore helps raise £45,000 for cancer charities at Plumpton Racecourse
Plumpton racecourse held a Sussex Raceday on Sunday April 3rd and local jockey Jamie Moore led a fundraising campaign for the Sussex Cancer Fund and the Western Sussex Breast Care Centre. The cause is important to the rider as his Lucie was treated for breast cancer in 2020.
A special ‘lunch with the Moores’ was organised and there was a host of activities, demonstrations and entertainment from the local area. A Sussex Farmers Market in the marquee brought together food, drink, sport, culture, wildlife and crafts from all over the county. Demonstrations from local Morris Dancers and Sussex Falconry where on hand for racegoers to enjoy. Racing broadcaster Mike Cattermole hosted a silent auction and raffle which helped raise money too.
Bourbali won for Brendan Powell in the handicap hurdle. Bourbali was trained by Colin Tizzard, who lost his daughter Kim Gingell to cancer two years ago.
Speaking to the Racing Post Brendan Powell said: “Kim was a massive cog in the Tizzard operation and I’m sure she’s looking down and smiling after that. Its a great initiative by Jamie and hopefully it’s the first of many.”
