Barry Geraghty among Leger Legends racing in support of its partner charities
First run in 2010, the St Leger Legends horse race is the only British charity race for ex-professional jockeys. Previous winners include horse racing industry legends Sir AP McCoy, Joseph O’Brien, Brian Harding and Julie Krone.
Leger Legends is sponsored by Elwick Stud, run in support of the National Horseracing College and the Injured Jockeys Fund’s Jack Berry House rehabilitation centre.
This year’s riders include former jump jockeys alongside their Flat counterparts, and it is expected to be an extremely competitive renewal:
- Gary Bardwell
- Sammy Jo Bell
- David Crosse
- Noel Fehily
- Barry Geraghty
- Mark Grant
- Brian Harding
- Dale Irving
- Richard Johnson OBE
- Ollie Pears
- Charlie Poste
- Amy Ryan
The race will open the four-day St Leger festival as in previous years, with Thursday being a new-look Ladies Day. Friday is Donny’s Day, with the oldest race to be held at Doncaster – the Doncaster Cup the racing highlight. After the last 18 months, the racecourse wants to celebrate the people of Doncaster by sharing stories of local heroes and celebrating all the organisations and community groups that have provided support and solace.
You can watch the race on Sky Sports Racing.
