Lisa Wainwright MBE announced as keynote speaker for Industry Day

Racing Together is pleased to announce Lisa Wainwright MBE, CEO of the Sport and Recreation Alliance as keynote speaker for Racing Together Industry Day.

The full day event dedicated to community engagement and social impact is kindly sponsored again by Gallagher, and supported by the Horseracing Betting Levy Board, the Racing Foundation and the Racecourse Association.

The day brings together a range of leaders and active practitioners working across community engagement, in racing and other sports and sectors.

The day will bring together a range of leaders and active practitioners working across community engagement, in racing and other sports and sectors.

This year’s event embraces the extraordinary contribution made by the people at the heart of the sport’s community engagement and social impact, and the significance of winning hearts and inspiring minds for racing and beyond.

The agenda will showcase the sport’s dedicated voluntary network, the importance of high-quality impact measurement and explore racecourses as community hubs. The day will explore why EDI matters more than ever, and support the launch of the industry’s updated strategy.


About Lisa

Lisa Wainwright MBE has been CEO of the Sport and Recreation Alliance since 2019 and has held a variety of senior leaderships roles across the sector over the last thirty years, including Head of Sport at Sport England (Govt body), CEO of Volleyball England and CEO of British Basketball. Internationally, Lisa has held roles on the European Volleyball (CEV) Credentials Panel and at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) as a Technical Director and on their World Ethics Panel. She was also a member of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Governance Commission, as well as being a Director of the British Olympic Association.

In 2018 Lisa became an Ambassador for Women on Boards UK. In 2019 she was ranked number 8 in the Top 100 Executive LGBT+ Allies by FT OUTStanding and in 2023 became a Graduate from Harvard University Women’s Forum. Lisa is Vice Chair of Governors at Northampton School for Girls, is a member of the Sports Broadcast Committee and a judge for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero Award and Sports Business Awards. Lisa was shortlisted for The Times Sports Women of the Year – Gamechanger Award (2023) for her work in securing the UK’s Secretariat for and host of the International Working Group on Women in Sport (IWG) and more recently was listed on the Women in Trade Associations The 2025 WiTA Powerlist.  Lisa has a Hon Dr of Science from Bedfordshire University for services to sport and in 2022 was awarded an MBE for Services to Sport.  She has two young daughters aged 13 and 14.
