Local MP Conor McGinn to visit Racing to School day at Haydock Park on June 7th
Racing to School is pleased to announce that Labour MP for St Helens North, Conor McGinn will attend one of the charity’s education days for young people.
Haydock Park is within the MP’s constituency and will this year host seven activity learning days for the charity, which uses the assets and inner workings of a raceday to support core school subjects. McGinn will meet pupils with special education needs and their teachers from Elms Bank Specialist Arts College in Manchester.
The MP is also Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the Horseracing and Bloodstock Industries and will be updated on the wider work of racing with its communities – through the Racing Together partnership. The MP will be introduced to a representative from the ABF Soldiers Charity to learn about their successful collaboration with Haydock racecourse.
“It’s a great boost to Racing to School, and to the sport, to have a local MP like Conor attend one of our Education Programme days, and to see how the sport offers unique and exciting ways to enrich learning. We are also pleased to work for the first time with the young people from Elms Bank College, who will be among 14,000 who participate in our programmes this year,” said John Blake from Racing to School.
“Racing’s capacity and willingness to help its communities is a key message to get across to local and national leaders. Haydock’s staging of the recent Soldiers’ Race Day is just one great example of the mutual benefits of racing connecting with good causes working in the community.”
The MP will accompany the school group as they learn about the mechanics of the sport and work in teams to work through structured and fun activities around the racecourse.
