Lucy Gurney joins Nick Lightfoot on the BHA Podcast to discuss Racing Together Community Week 2026
In the latest episode of the BHA Podcast, Racing Together Community Engagement Manager Lucy Gurney joins host Nick Lightfoot to discuss Racing Together Community Week 2026, which gets underway this week, the activity taking place across the country and how organisations can get involved. The episode is available now on all major streaming platforms.
Now in its seventh year, Racing Together Community Week runs from 18-24th May, with more than 70 organisations from across the British racing industry taking part in a week of volunteering, fundraising and community activity. Participation has more than doubled since 2020, bringing the industry together through activities ranging from school outreach programmes and charity partnerships to garden restorations, food bank support and experience days.
Following the launch of British racing’s social impact strategy, Community Week will also be used to highlight the year-round social impact work taking place across British racing, alongside the volunteering delivered during the week itself. Whether you are taking part this week or looking to get involved in the months ahead, its not too late to plan your activity.
New for 2026 is an optional theme encouraging organisations to support work addressing loneliness in local communities, linking to a BHA pilot programme currently being delivered by Racing Together at six racecourses and funded by the Racing Foundation.
John Blake, CEO of Racing to School, said: “Racing Together Community Week has become a perfect example of the phrase ‘greater than the sum of its parts’. Participation has grown year-on-year, creating opportunities for teams and individuals across the sport to use their skills to support local communities and develop creative projects. The willingness shown by volunteers reflects the genuine pride people in racing take in making a difference beyond the sport itself.”
