Ludlow’s Community Commitment Shines Ahead of Racing Together Week

Ludlow Racecourse has set the tone for what is predicted to be a record-breaking Racing Together Community Week through two standout initiatives.

During February half-term, Ludlow hosted a well-attended “Behind the Scenes” raceday, welcoming families and young people for a memorable introduction to racing. Activities included a course walk led by a former jockey, an interactive weighing room tour, and meet-and-greet opportunities with jockeys.

Children also had the chance to learn how to ride like a jockey in equiciser demonstrations delivered by Racing to School. Additional highlights included talks from vets and farriers, a Pony Club show jumping course, and a parade from Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) featuring former racing champions Smad Place, Hazel Hill, and Pineau de Re. Each element of the day was designed to educate and inspire the next generation.

In March, Ludlow followed up with a charity fundraising raceday in support of RABI – the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, which is a charity providing financial, practical and emotional support to the farming community across England and Wales. The day highlighted the close ties between racing and the rural communities it supports.

These early activities highlight Ludlow’s ongoing dedication to giving back to its local community and showcase the power of racing to connect with community and charity groups. Their efforts offer inspiration for others preparing for Racing Together Community Week 2025, taking place 5–11 May.
