Newbury’s sales team is raising vital funds in support of causes close to their hearts

Sunday 19th May is an important date in the calendar for Newbury Racecourse’s Racing Sales team as they set about tackling a 10k run in support of Sue Ryder Charity.

Alice White, Sales Executive and Owners & Trainers Representative explains: “Two members of our team very sadly lost a member of their family to cancer quite recently. Julie our Receptionist lost her husband in December after losing his three-year battle with the disease and Octavia, our Head of Sales lost her father in February.

“As you can imagine for them it has been a really tough time but we wanted to show our appreciation for all Sue Ryder have done for Julie, Octavia and their families over the last few months. We are fundraising at and will be hosting various events to raise more money through bucket collections, dress down days and also the team’s 10k run at Green Park in Reading.”

Newbury supports 19 local and racing charities and over 10 community events throughout the year – from the local pancake race, to hosting the Lions Community Fireworks at the racecourse.

West Berkshire Mencap has recently benefitted from a ticket offer run by the racecourse, where £5 from each ticket purchased went back to the charity using a promo code for their supporters.

The Greatwood Charity Raceday last month raised £95,000. Staged by the Arabian Racing Organisation (ARO) and Shadwell at Newbury, the Dubai International Arabian Raceday is a free raceday which is a fantastic opportunity for the local community to get involved in racing. This year’s fixture is on Sunday 28th July.

Marketing Manager Sarah King also updated on Newbury’s commitment to the environment.

“We are probably most proud of launching our Green Team in the past year,” said Sarah.

“The Green Team was tasked with cutting our waste whilst not hindering the customer experience. The team have implemented new urinals across the site with smart flushing systems to reduce water usage and have made huge headway in finding solutions to cutting down on single-use plastics. They have also fitted new LED lights in all possible locations and introduced initiatives for staff to help with power saving. We are looking forward to implementing more of their plans in 2019.”
