Newcastle racegoers go green for Macmillan Cancer Support

Newcastle Racecourse is delighted to announce that their racegoers helped to raise £2,500 in 2017 for the great work of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager, Erin Fairley visited the team at Newcastle Racecourse this week to celebrate the results of their “Go Green” campaign.

The course was delighted to work in partnership with Macmillan to encourage people to wear green and make a donation to the charity on their Guinness St Patrick’s Meeting last year. There were also bucket collections on other race days throughout the season.

Newcastle’s Sponsorship Manager, Deborah Macdonald said: “We see ourselves as an important part of the community and we are so pleased to be able to give something back to charity. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Macmillan Cancer Support and their team of volunteers and also the thousands of racegoers from the north east and beyond that visited us in 2017 and put their hand in their pocket and donated to Macmillan.

“The kindness and generosity of the racegoers is to be applauded. The team here work really hard to make sure all our events are exciting and different and it is an added bonus that we can also help raise funds and awareness for such a good cause.”

“We are delighted for the fundraising opportunity that Newcastle Racecourse provided us with and without the help of our team of volunteers this would not be possible,” said Erin Fairley.

Outlining the charity’s mission, she added: “You may have cancer, but you are still you. Macmillan is here to help you get on with your life no matter what. We can give you the practical, emotional, and genuinely personal support you need to hold on to who you are and what’s important to you.
“We can be there for you during treatment, help with work and money worries and we’ll always listen if you need to talk. We’ve helped millions of people through cancer and we can do the same for you. Life with cancer is still your life and we will help you live it.”

Newcastle Racecourse will once again be supporting Macmillan with their fundraising efforts in 2018, to add to the many charities across a variety of sectors that have been supported in raising valuable funds and awareness.

Deborah MacDonald set a challenge to the community: “We would love racegoers to help Macmillan smash their £2,500 achieved last year. Look out for the charity volunteers when you next visit.

“Highlights of the racing calendar at Newcastle Racecourse in the coming months include, Saturday 24th February The Betfred Eider Chase Day; Saturday 17th March The Guinness St Patrick’s Raceday and Saturday 14th April Vertem Asset Management Grand National Day. We will be working with Macmillan and other chosen charity partners in 2018 and would appreciate all donations.”
