Pontefract work with Rugby League stars to attract new fans
A clever idea to work alongside the stars of Rugby League has introduced the sport’s fans to the excitement of horseracing.
On June 11th 300 season ticket holders from Castleford Tigers, Featherstone Rovers, Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats were able to experience racing at their local racecourse and be welcomed by some of their playing heroes.
Pontefract Racecourse has developed strong ties with the four rugby league clubs, and they put together an offer, which included discounted tickets and various packages for fans, as well as the special meet and greet with players from their beloved teams.
Richard Hamill Clerk of the Course Pontefract Races commented on the initiative: “There’s a huge buzz around the Racecourse as some of the best Rugby League players in the country, mingle with the racegoers. Working closely with the four Rugby teams brings a huge potential audience to the Racecourse and taps into a new market of racegoers.”
With the success of this year’s event, Pontefract plan to make the day even bigger next year, working with more teams and inviting their fans to the course, as well. Next year should see even more Rugby League fans experience a summer evening at the races.
