Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pays tribute to dedication of racing staff across the industry
In a special broadcast to the assembled guests at the Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards at York Racecourse earlier this week, the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak MP congratulated the industry on its ability to ‘showcase Britain on the global stage’. He applauded both the quality of British racing but also the work the sport achieves within its communities, as well as the £4bn it contributes to the UK economy.
Both Catterick Racecourse and Middleham training centre sit within Mr Sunak’s Richmond Parliamentary constituency and speaking via a video link before the winners were announced, he wished the nominees good luck before praising the hard work and dedication of all the stable staff, saying that they ‘exemplify all that is best about British Racing and Breeding’.
The Prime Minister added: “I am delighted that the Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards are taking place in Yorkshire for the first time.
“From my visits to Middleham, and Catterick racecourse, both in my constituency, I have seen the sheer hard work, grit and dedication of all in British racing for the horses in their care.
“I want to see British racing and breeding stay at the front of this global race in the years ahead.”
