Racing to School celebrates Small Charity Week 2024: Fostering resilient charities for stronger Communities
Racing to School, horseracing’s smallest charity, is proud to support this Small Charity Week – an annual celebration which recognises the vital and valuable contributions small charities make to communities across the UK.
Small Charity Week celebrates and raises awareness of the essential work of the sector, which makes an invaluable contribution to the lives of millions of individuals, communities, and causes across the UK and the rest of the world.
Across Britain, small charities like ours play a significant role in encouraging young people to aim high and enjoy learning in a unique setting. Racing to School aims to inspire young minds through the provision of free, interactive, and healthy outdoor educational events for schools, staged at a variety of racing venues.
We are proud to be part of this collective effort to recognise the power of small charities in our local communities. Small Charity Week is not only a chance to say thank you but also an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of supporting local charities through donations, fundraising, and volunteering.
John Blake, Chief Executive of Racing to School said: “Well over 90% of the UK’s c165,000 charities attract annual income of under £1m, yet they are a vital component in society, supporting so much community need. It is so important to recognise those who give up their time with such diligence and passion to sit on boards, fundraise or campaign, as well as the small staff teams who deliver programmes with real impact.
“Many people will be unaware of racing’s interconnected network of charities (and funders) and the vital roles they play for our horses, people and future. Racing to School is proud to be among their number.”
Sarah Vibert, CEO of NCVO said: “Small Charity Week is a fantastic moment to help celebrate, recognise and enable small charities to make an even bigger impact in their communities. I encourage everyone to get involved in Small Charity Week 2024.
“Just as the support they offer is needed more than ever. We need a strong and resilient small charity sector.”
