Racing with Pride & Friends Day Out at Lingfield

Racing with Pride, British racing’s official LGBT+ network, continues to open up the sport to new audiences and on the 18th of December they invited 20 representatives from other LGBTQ + sports groups for a day of racing at Lingfield Park racecourse, with many of the attendees having never been racing previously.

Members of Racing with Pride mentored members and allies of the ACE Players Tennis Croydon, Soho FC, Charlton Invicta FC and South London Smashers Tennis group and were treated to a behind the scenes look at the Weighing Room and Stewards’ Room, a tour of the racecourse and an expert guide on how to read the racecard.

As is often the way with these things, those attending new to racing enjoyed the best luck and winnings of up to £75 were made for a few pound bets and with most members having a winner or places, all agreed the day had been exciting and informative.

Leigh Armstrong, Vice Chair of Racing with Pride said “It was great to bring together members from different LGBTQ +sports groups and share how we organise activities and how we encourage participation.

“The event was a huge success and members are looking forward to another trip to the races in 2025 possibly in warmer conditions!

“Thank you to GBR for supporting this important work, to BHA for their raceday tours and to Lingfield Park for their warm welcome and great hospitality.”
