RMG colleagues trade desks for yard duties at Ebony Horse Club

Racecourse Media Group staff stepped out of their comfort zones today as 30 colleagues spent the day volunteering at Ebony Horse Club in Brixton, supporting the charity’s work to transform young lives through horses.

The team swapped desks, studios and edit suites for sandpaper, brushes and yard duties, joining Ebony’s staff to help prepare the centre for a busy summer of activity.

The Club has strong ties to racing, with one of its patrons, Khadijah Mellah, having ridden there for many years before going on to win the Magnolia Cup at Glorious Goodwood on Haverland.

The volunteering was part of Racing Together Community Week which runs from 18-24th May. Clive Cottrell, Director of Marketing of Racecourse Media Group, is on the Racing Together Sub Committee and was instrumental in organising the volunteering.

He said: “Ebony Horse Club shows the very best of what horses can do for people. Our team came away inspired by the young riders, the staff and the sense of community that runs through the place. It was a privilege to play a small part in supporting their work.”

Ebony Horse Club COO, Sid Holdsworth, added: “Having 30 RMG volunteers on site made a big difference today – not just in the practical jobs they tackled, but in the enthusiasm and energy they brought. We need support and volunteering like this to help us keep the yard running smoothly and ensure our young people have the best possible environment to learn and grow.”

Based in the heart of Brixton, Ebony Horse Club provides riding lessons, mentoring, youth work and life skills support to hundreds of young people each year. The charity uses horses as a catalyst for confidence, resilience and aspiration.
