Sophie Able, General Manager at Newmarket Racecourses on #under18sracefree, a new Gold Season Community Champion initiative and more
On a busy summer raceday at Newmarket’s July Course, Sophie Able shares more about their family raceday and #KidsTakeoverRacing day. Run by Great British Racing and powered by Racing to School, Takeover Days are designed to welcome under 18s behind the scenes at a racecourse, ‘taking over’ raceday roles, such as raceday presenting and clerk of the scales.
Also welcoming young people on the day was the Careers in Racing team that hosted an “Explore Racing” day to offer insights into the diverse careers opportunities available within the sport – they visited the British Racing School in the town before enjoying a day at the racecourse.
In addition to Friday’s family fun activity, Newmarket supports sporting and charity events year-round, and are a vital partner to the Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project. The Beacon introduces local students to learning and career opportunities through an ever-expanding range of activities, many of which use the racing venues on their doorstep.
On 21st September, Newmarket’s Gold Season gets underway at the Rowley Mile Racecourse. Find out more out their newest initiative in support of their local community below.
