Studying the form at Hampden Park

A recent collaboration between Hamilton Park Racecourse and Hamilton Grammar School has hit the spotlight at Scotland’s National Stadium.

The ‘Studying the Form at Hamilton Park’ project, which showcases horse racing’s deep-rooted history in the local area, was exhibited at Hampden Park’s Hall of Fame from November 25th to Monday 2nd December.

Using photos and documents from the racecourse’s archive, the Hamilton Grammar School pupils researched the history and significance of horse racing in Hamilton and beyond, producing some stunning pieces of artwork.

The S2 pupils started the project at the end of their S1 year, and their work was initially exhibited at the Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce Raceday at Hamilton Park on September 23rd. Racegoers enjoyed viewing the exhibition whilst the pupils proudly discussed their impressive work.
The pupils visited Hampden Park during the exhibition to see their artwork on display and they were also treated to an entertaining behind-the-scenes tour of the famous stadium.

Sulekha Varma, Racing Manager at Hamilton Park, said:

“We are thrilled that the project has been exhibited at Hampden Park’s Hall of Fame. The quality of the projects produced by the pupils was incredible and we enjoyed sharing the racecourse’s intriguing history with younger generations. We are hugely grateful to Richard McBrearty, the team at the Scottish Football Museum and Sport Heritage Scotland for this superb opportunity.”

Aileen Goring, S1 Year Head at Hamilton Grammar School, added:

“Both the pupils and teachers are very excited to have showcased their fantastic work at Hampden Park following the success at Hamilton Park in September. It has been fascinating to learn more about the racecourse and its appeal to all ages.”

The Hall of Fame at Hampden Park is open 7 days a week. For more information on the exhibition, please call 0141 616 6139 or visit scottishfootballmuseum.org.uk. Find out more about Hamilton Park Racecourse here.
