The Furlong Factor is back and entries are now open in the quest to find racing’s next pop idol

The Furlong Factor is back for its second year and once again Racing Welfare has teamed up with Great British Racing, the Tote and Sky Sports Racing in a bid to find racing’s best singer. Last year the competition created a much-needed morale boost throughout the industry and it is hoped this year will be no different.

“The Furlong Factor raised both smiles and money last year. GBR was proud to be associated with such a fun and innovative event. A year later and the sport is still dealing with the effects of Covid, so there is definitely good reason to cheer people up and generate money for Racing Welfare whose fundraising has been affected by the pandemic, whilst its services have never been more needed. We unearthed a lot of talent last year and we know that there is more out there,” said Rod Street, Great British Racing Chief Executive.

It is hoped that the Furlong Factor will provide some brilliant entertainment, as well as raising essential funds for Racing Welfare’s Lost Events Appeal. Dawn Goodfellow, Racing Welfare Chief Executive, said: “Last year’s Furlong Factor proved to be the fillip we all needed and, as we come out of the dark winter months and a tough time for the industry, I very much hope that this year’s competition will do the same.  The financial impact of the pandemic continues to hit us hard and I would encourage anyone who enjoys this year’s Furlong Factor to consider donating to our Lost Events Appeal. Every donation, no matter how big or small, enables us to help those who need us the most at this time.”

Entries are now open to anyone working in the racing industry and will close on Wednesday 21st April with the winner being announced on Tuesday 4th May. Full details on how to enter and the terms and conditions can be found on the Racing Welfare website.
