The Great Racing Welfare Auction raises over £50,000!

The Great Racing Welfare Auction, that ran for four weeks and closed its bidding last night, has raised an incredible £53,195 for the charity.  Racing Welfare auctioned off over 100 fantastic lots in the online auction with all the proceeds going to their Covid-19 Emergency Appeal.

Generous donations from across the racing industry and beyond included everything from an ultimate Grand National experience to racehorse syndicate shares, bronze sculptures, a riding lesson with Sir Mark Todd and even a hotly contested quartet of chickens.  There was something on offer for everyone and that showed in the huge number of bids made. With a final flurry of bidding in the last half hour of the auction the total number of bids made was an incredible 1,980. The most popular lot proved to be a morning with Champion National Hunt trainer Nicky Henderson which was fought out by 57 bidders. The highest grossing lot was a tour of Coolmore Stud and Ballydoyle training yard for four people, which went for a whopping £5,250.

Racing Welfare’s Chief Executive, Dawn Goodfellow, was keen to thank all those who supported the auction and made it such a success: “The generosity of both those who donated lots to our auction and those who placed bids has been truly astounding.  Given the incredibly difficult times we are all facing, to have received this level of support is testament to the wonderful spirit of the racing community.  A total of over £53,000 provides a huge boost to our Emergency Appeal and I cannot extend enough thanks to everyone involved.”

The Great Racing Welfare Auction was launched in August as part of Racing Welfare’s Covid-19 Emergency Appeal.  The appeal is aiming to bridge the £500,000 income deficit faced by the charity due to the pandemic and the proceeds of the auction have pushed the appeal total to just over £343,000.  To find out more about the Emergency Appeal and to donate please go to: justgiving.com/RWEmergencyAppeal.
