The Newmarket Stop Smoking campaign was launched yesterday aimed at supporting people living and working in Newmarket
OneLife Suffolk, the West Suffolk Alliance and numerous Newmarket racing organisations have worked together to launch the campaign. The goal is to increase the number of people working in the Newmarket racing community to set a quit date.
The campaign will release resources every week for eight weeks. Smoking has well known risks attached and the NHS reports that it is one of the biggest causes of death and illness in the UK. OneLife Suffolk offers a free and friendly Stop Smoking service and joining means you are three times more likely to stop for good. Their 12-week Stop Smoking service is based around supportive behaviour change, helping break bad habits and replace them with healthier ones.
In recent research it has been seen that smoking prevalence is significantly higher in Newmarket (18.6%) in comparison to the average across England (16.7%), with one in five registered GP patients in Newmarket being smokers. The full assessment can be read here.
If you, any of your colleagues or employees would benefit from their stop smoking programme, please direct them to the campaign page which includes information about the service and how to sign up.
