Trainer James Ferguson talks about his part in the Racehorse Lotto’s ‘Win a Racehorse Christmas Raffle’ in support of Racing Welfare

This Christmas one lucky entrant to the Racehorse Lotto Christmas Raffle will win an exciting two-year-old filly for the 2021 Flat racing season. Top jockey Hayley Turner will ride the horse trained by James Ferguson. The raffle raises funds to support Racing Welfare.

James Ferguson said: “This is not just a fantastic opportunity for somebody to get involved in racing, it’s also a brilliant chance for me as this filly could be a star. She’s speedily bred and, all being well, will be forward enough to tackle some of the hot maidens in the spring and early summer.

“I have trained in Newmarket for just over a year, having played a part in racing yards all over the world, as well as riding as an amateur. It means a lot to be a part of this raffle to raise money for Racing Welfare – their role is so important in looking after racing’s people, especially at the moment.

“So far I have trained 18 winners at a strike rate of 21% and as a yard we are constantly looking at ways to engage our owners and fans of our brilliant sport. The Racehorse Lotto is a really interesting concept and benefits important charities while offering fantastic money-can’t-buy ownership opportunities through their prizes.”

The Raffle

The precociously bred daughter of Territories, out of Newbury Super Sprint runner-up Satsuma, is being raffled at £10 a ticket with 20% of sales going to Racing Welfare.

The winner will be able to visit the horse on a regular basis at Ferguson’s Newmarket base. Hayley Turner will be involved in riding the horse in her work and in her races.

Naming rights are also included in the prize and the winner will also be able to design and select their own racing silks within this great prize. All training fees are covered by Racehorse Lotto.

Hayley Turner said: “This is exactly the kind of thing that racing and the wider public need at the moment. It gets people excited, optimistic and involved in the sport, while importantly raising money for Racing Welfare who do such fabulous work for the industry.

“She looks a beautiful filly and I can’t wait to start riding her out over the winter. James is a brilliant young trainer and I think the winner can expect to have some fun times watching her run.”

Hugh O’Donnell, Founder and CEO of Furlong Gaming, the parent company of Racehorse Lotto, said: “We have spent all summer looking for the right horse to wrap up as our Christmas Raffle prize and I think we’ve found a cracker.

“I’m delighted to have Hayley and James on board as they are both so enthusiastic about giving their all for the horse. Whoever wins this prize should be in for an amazing ride in 2021.

“We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to enter the Christmas Raffle. For just £10 a ticket there is a potentially life-changing gift up for grabs and with enough entries we can make a significant contribution to Racing Welfare.”

Christmas Raffle entries close at 3pm on Friday 25th December, with the winner set to be called on Christmas Day to receive the good news. Find out more: Racehorse Lotto – Christmas Raffle
