All you need to know about giving back – new eLearning highlights volunteering
Racing2Learn – the sport’s education platform – has added a new course to drive the volunteering spirit across the sport.
‘Volunteering in British Horseracing’ is designed for keen volunteers and for racing charities, to train those willing to give up their time in support of some great causes. The free interactive course has been created specifically for charities and volunteers connected with the sport.
“We were very pleased to work with colleagues at Racing Welfare to put together a practical guide, which hopefully will inspire new volunteers to make a real difference,” said Lucy Gurney from Racing Together.
The course has used some relevant resources, such as the NCVO.
Topics covered include:
- An overview of volunteering
- Understanding organisations and their volunteering roles within the industry
- Recognising the skills needed to be an effective volunteer
- Recognising the importance of safeguarding
Some of the specific skills highlighted, include listening skills, dealing with difficult situations, empathy vs sympathy and much more. The course provides information on the types of volunteer roles that exist, and where to find them.
You will need to create a free Racing2Learn account if you don’t already have one.
