Volunteers’ Week 1-7 June
This week is national Volunteers’ Week which is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.
Community Day
Racing Together Community Day is an opportunity for a range of racing businesses and charities nationwide to engage with and support their communities through local volunteering activities. A record level of participation was achieved in May this year with over 65 racing organisations and businesses from across the sport in locations nationwide embracing the day by giving up their time to help others. Find out more about Racing Together Community Day here.
Racing Welfare
Racing Welfare is a charity which supports British racing’s workforce. They offer guidance and practical help to all the racing people including stud, stable and racecourse staff. Their work aims to help people from recruitment to retirement, to thrive in day-to-day life and through a range of life’s challenges. Volunteers are vital in helping them achieve this and deliver support right across the UK. One type of volunteer position with them is their check in and chat service. This involves providing a weekly call to someone who may be feeling lonely, isolated or just looking for a regular chat with one of their friendly volunteers. All volunteering opportunities at Racing Welfare can be found here.
Careers in Racing
The British Horseracing Authority’s Careers in Racing team implement recruitment, training, education and community initiatives for the horseracing industry. They have a free job board which also hosts volunteer positions within the industry. Current live positions range from Bucket Collection Volunteer to Event Support for the Great Racing Welfare Cycle. All positions can be found here.
Women in Racing
Mentoring is a key objective of Women in Racing (WiR), which aims to provide support across all facets of the industry nationwide. WiR Mentors volunteer their time to provide tailored support, encouragement, guidance and contacts to help ensure that racing’s people can develop. Find out more here.
