purpose

Purpose:

To increase racings presence within schools – particulary those close to racing yards. To also increase racings presence in communities that may not have thought about racing as a career choice. Volunteer Career Makers go into schools and share information about working in racing. Many secondary schools encourage employers and industries to attend schools in the shape of careers fairs and assemblies – to support Gatsby Benchmarks in particular Benchamrk 5 ‘Encounters with employers and employees’. Volunteers were recruited by CiR and given the titles Careermakers. They range from people who have worked in the industry to racing enthusiasts with a wide range of career history. All Careermakeres receive online training and are provided with kit including branded jackets, leaflets, stands, handouts etc. the rpogramme launched in 2019 and over 70 engagements have taken place to date. Obviously the activity was shut down during the pandemic and the plan is to start re-engaging as the country opens up again. We hope to see more trainers get involved with the programme and the dream is 600 trainers = 600 school engagements!
