Racing is Everyone’s Sport campaign relaunches at British racecourses

On Saturday 3rd December, Great British Racing, in conjunction with Racing With Pride, will be delivering a nationwide campaign to increase LGBT+ visibility across the sport. For the third year running, all five racecourses hosting fixtures on the day will be participating in the campaign, which previously came under the banner of Racing is Everyone’s Sport.

This year, the activation will be under Racing With Pride and will see the launch of a refreshed logo which more accurately represents the breadth of the LGBT+ community. This development demonstrates the desire for Racing With Pride, and the wider industry, to ensure they are reflecting the broad spectrum of identities encompassed in society.

The on-course activation at racecourses will include parade ring branding, race sponsorship, and rainbow saddle cloths, as well as race-goer giveaways. It is hoped that these visual cues will all serve as conversation starters to drive open dialogue around LGBT+ inclusion in British racing. Awareness raising sits as an important element of Racing With Pride’s work to further develop LGBT+ inclusion across the sport, including peer support, networking, and education.

On the activity, David Letts, Chair of Racing With Pride, commented:

It is brilliant to be partnering with Great British Racing to, once again, deliver on a joint aim of making racing accessible and inclusive to a broad spectrum of people. Bringing this activity under the banner of Racing With Pride offers a central focus for all matters relating to LGBT+ inclusion across the sport. It is hoped that this consistency will make it easier for LGBT+ people to find the support network and signposting available through Racing With Pride.”

The importance of visibility cannot be underestimated with one Racing With Pride member remarking:

To be seen for who I am as an individual, and the visible promotion as an LGBT+ community in racing means we can enjoy the sport we love in a welcoming space. The support Racing With Pride and wider organisations provide really does endorse the phrase ‘sport has the power to change the world’.

The courses taking part are: Aintree, Chepstow, Sandown, Wetherby and Wolverhampton. Racing With Pride would like to thank all racecourses, sponsors and individuals who have given their support.
