York Racecourse celebrates Pride month with Racing with Pride

On Friday, York Racecourse welcomed to their raceday members from the LGBT+ network Racing With Pride, together with players from York’s inclusive rugby team the RI Templars.

The raceday provided an opportunity to celebrate and recognise Pride month, and together with allies, Racing With Pride and the Templars enjoyed an afternoon of racing and networking.

Furthermore, the EBF generously donated the sponsorship of the 3pm race named the British EBF supporting Racing With Pride Fillies Stakes and members from Racing With Pride and the RI Templars judged the best turned out and presented the trophy of the race to the winning connections.

Radio Goo Goo, ridden by Ben Curtis and trained by David Evans, was the winner of the British EBF supporting Racing With Pride Stakes and was presented with a Pride flag rug.

Head of Marketing & Sponsorship, James Brennan said: “Our Friday June raceday is great opportunity during Pride Month to reaffirm that York Racecourse is an inclusive and welcoming venue.  Our activity focused on that welcome and enabling people to connect with racing, whilst amplifying the message to the industry and racing public that York Racecourse is open to everyone, across all our 18 fixtures”.

David Letts, Chair of Racing With Pride added: “We are very grateful to the British EBF and York Racecourse today. It’s great to bring different people and sports together to learn and discuss both the progress and challenges that remain within the LGBT+ community and sport.   Our group had the chance to get up close and personal with racing from the paddock, the race start, as well as making the presentation to the winning connections.  It’s fantastic to be immersed in this unique sport which everyone enjoyed throughout the day.”
